MADISON – Frederic “Ric” Ransom will join UW Health in December as the new president of UW Hospitals, Madison region.

Ransom is currently chief operating officer at Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville, South Carolina. He has been with Greenville Health since 2014 and has risen steadily from senior administrator to COO for the largest of the health system’s multiple campuses. With more than 14,000 employees, Greenville Health System includes acute-care hospitals as well as specialty hospitals for behavioral health, pediatrics and rehabilitation. Its medical group has more than 1100 providers among more than 100 locations, primarily in northwestern South Carolina. His previous experience includes service at Baptist Memorial Healthcare Corp. in Memphis; WellStar Health System in Marietta, Georgia; Partners Health System in Boston; and Baylor in Dallas.

A graduate of Morehouse College in Atlanta, Ransom also holds a law degree from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama and both an MBA and master’s in health administration from the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

Ransom will provide overall direction for University Hospital, American Family Children’s Hospital, and UW Health at The American Center. He will also work in close collaboration with leaders at UnityPoint Health-Meriter in continuing implementation of the joint operating agreement between the two organizations.

Ransom will join UW Health in December.
