**In Wisconsin Dells ...

-- May 2, 11 a.m., 'Future of Wisconsin Transportation Funding' event features Congressman Petri, expert panel.

Across-the-board federal budget cuts, an uncertain congressional budget process, and pressure on the state Transportation Fund have raised concerns about long-term funding of transportation initiatives in Wisconsin.

To hear an in-depth discussion of the issue, come to a May 2 WisPolitics.com luncheon at the Wintergreen Conference Center just off the Interstate at the Wisconsin Dells.

Registration for the public event begins at 11 a.m. with lunch at 11:30 a.m. Then, a noontime address by Congressman Tom Petri, R-Wisconsin, chairman of the House Subcommittee on Highways and Transit.

Following the congressman's address, a panel discussion on short- and long-term state transportation issues would be convened and would run until 1:15 p.m.

Panel participants are:
--State Rep. Keith Ripp, chairman of the Assembly Transportation Committee;
--State Rep. Penny Bernard Schaber, member, Assembly Transportation Committee;
--Craig Thompson, executive director, Transportation Development Association;
--Dave Cieslewicz, former mayor of Madison and adjunct professor in urban & regional planning and political science at UW-Madison.

The advance price for lunch and the program is $18; payment at the door is $20.
