Madison, Wis. –– Today, Wisconsin Democrats from across the state gathered virtually for the first night of the 2021 State Convention. Wisconsin Democrats were energized, coming off of their success in national, state, and local elections in 2020, and enthusiastic to bring that momentum into the 2022 cycle.

All eyes are on Wisconsin as 2022 inches closer. Wisconsin has critical House, Senate, and Gubernatorial races, and Wisconsinites are eager to hold Republicans accountable for voting against critical pandemic relief––once again putting politics over people. WisDems were joined by state leaders Gov. Tony Evers, Sen. Tammy Baldwin, Rep. Ron Kind, Rep. Gwen Moore, and Rep. Mark Pocan, as well as national leaders President Joe Biden and Secretary Julián Castro.

See what our state and national leaders had to say:

President Joe Biden

“Our job is to prove to the American people that their government can once again deliver for them in their lives, and that’s what we’ve done. COVID cases and deaths are way down, and vaccinations are way up, jobs are up, growth is up, and wages are up. We’re beating this pandemic, putting people back to work, and leading the world once again––and we’re just getting started.”

Governor Tony Evers

“Wisconsin, I’m in. I’m running for re-election. We’ve accomplished a lot in the last few years, but we’re just getting started. We have more work to do, together. This is the moment where we can choose to fix the big problems in Wisconsin and bounce back stronger than ever before. That means doing what’s best for our kids, creating good-paying jobs, fixing our infrastructure, supporting small businesses, and making sure everyone has access to quality, affordable health care—all the things we want for our state.”

Secretary Castro

“2022 is going to be a turning point year. We have this opportunity right now to make sure that everybody in this country is able to prosper. This pandemic has shown us that the most vulnerable in our country need our attention and our investment. And for the first time in a long time, we actually have a diverse governing coalition and the support of Americans who believe in dreaming big, who believe in making those investments.”

U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin

“Because of your commitment, we’ve been able to make historic investments to help America build back better while following the science and tackling the pandemic head on. Whether it’s shots in arms, checks in wallets, businesses reopening, workers being hired at a record pace, students safely returning to the classroom, or simply just grandparents being able to hug their grandchildren again––Democrats are putting people over politics and taking bold steps to write a new, more hopeful, and more progressive chapter in our nation’s history.”

U.S. Representative Ron Kind

“What a breath of fresh air it is to wake up in our country today with a Biden-Harris administration that’s more interested in the peace, the welfare, and the success of the American people than about themselves. And every day now, we’re working hard to advance that agenda––and we’re getting things done.”

U.S. Representative Gwen. Moore

“President Biden saved millions of Americans and small businesses from economic ruin through the American Rescue Plan. Governor Tony Evers and President Joe Biden are our only hope for building and bouncing back.”

U.S. Representative Mark Pocan

“Thanks to the administrations of Joe Biden and Tony Evers, we are reopening safely with a robust investment in our economy and the scourge of the last four years finally behind us.”
