U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson’s campaign announced the Oshkosh Republican raised $7.1 million during the first quarter of 2022, almost 10 times what he pulled in during the final three months of 2021.

Johnson formally launched his reelection bid in January toward the start of the latest reporting period. His campaign said the $7.1 million fundraising haul includes $2.1 million from online contributions alone.

By comparison, Johnson reported $711,498 in receipts for the final quarter of 2021 as he contemplated seeking a third six-year term after previously saying he would only serve two. He finished 2021 with nearly $2.5 million in the bank.

Johnson’s haul is well above what his Dem rivals have announced so far.

Alex Lasry, who’s on leave from his job with the Milwaukee Bucks, says he pulled in $3.9 million during the period. That includes $3.45 million he gave the campaign.

Fellow Dem Sarah Godlewski said she pulled in $2.1 million during the first quarter, including a $1.5 million contribution the state treasurer gave her campaign. And Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes said earlier this week he raised $1.7 million.

FEC reports are due by the end of today.
