Wisconsin Chief Justice Pat Roggensack has appointed Racine County Reserve Judge Stephen Simanek to oversee President Trump’s appeal of the recounts in Dane and Milwaukee counties.

After the state Supreme Court split 4-3 years in rejecting Trump’s request to take up his case directly, the president’s campaign filed notices of appeal in both counties.

In an order last night, Roggensack consolidated the cases as provided under state law in the appeal of recounts that occurred in more than one judicial district. She then appointed Simanek to hear the case.

Simanek, 75, served on the Racine County Circuit Court from 1980-2010.
