U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson says Dems can’t have both “an unconstitutional impeachment trial & Senate confirmation of the Biden admin’s national security team.”
“They need to choose between being vindictive or staffing the administration to keep the nation safe,” the Oshkosh Republican said in a tweet. “What will it be: revenge or security?”
A Johnson spokesman told WisPolitics.com the tweet, as well as a subsequent message in that thread calling on President Biden to direct House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to refrain from sending the articles of impeachment to the Senate, was not a threat.
“Historically when the House impeaches someone and it comes to the Senate, that is the only business before the Senate until the impeachment process is done,” spokesman Ben Voelkel said in an email.
Johnson in the tweet thread said he believes an impeachment trial for President Trump was unconstitutional because Trump has left office.
