GOP leaders dismiss Evers special session call

GOP legislative leaders dismissed as a "desperate political stunt" Dem Gov. Tony Evers' call for a special session that would create a pathway for voters to overturn the state's 1849 abortion ban after Republicans lawmakers have refused to do so.

Evers pitched the idea yesterday as a way to go around GOP lawmakers and said the proposal has "new bipartisan support," citing GOP U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson's comments that he would back a referendum to add exemptions to the state's 173-year-old abortion law.
