GOP U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson launched a new TV ad that features two people who say the lawmaker’s “right to try” legislation helped save their mother’s life.

The campaign said the new ad was part of a statewide broadcast and cable buy but didn’t release any other details.

The spot features Kelley Sweet and Mark Akins, who talk about their mother being able to access a new treatment thanks to Johnson’s legislation. The campaign didn’t include any other details about Sweet or Akins in the release.

Akins said things were “really starting to turn worse for my mom” when they were able to have their mother treated with Zymesil, which was still in clinical trials.

Zymesil has been studied as a treatment for critical COVID-19 patients. The ad doesn’t say whether their mother had the virus, and the campaign didn’t immediately respond to a request for details on why their mother was treated with the drug. Johnson has pushed a series of alternative treatments for COVID-19 and has been accused of spreading disinformation about the disease as well.

“Right to try is hope when there is no hope,” Sweet says in the ad.
