Michael Best Strategies, Spectrum News 1, UW-Milwaukee and WisPolitics.com announced today they are partnering to sponsor the only statewide televised primary debates in Wisconsin’s races for lieutenant governor.

The hourlong debate featuring Dem candidates will start at 1 p.m. on July 20. The debate featuring the GOP candidates will be the following day at 1 p.m.

Both will be at the UW-Milwaukee Mainstage Theater and will air live on Spectrum News 1.

The debates will be moderated by Spectrum News 1 anchor Jason Fechner. Spectrum anchors Pete Zervakis and Sachelle Reed and WisPolitics.com Editor JR Ross will serve as panelists.

Candidates who secure ballot access are invited to participate.

In the Dem race, Peng Her, of Madison, and state Rep. Sara Rodriguez, of Brookfield, filed nomination papers.

Meanwhile, eight GOP candidates filed papers by last week’s deadline: David King, of Milwaukee; Will Martin, who served in Scott Walker’s cabinet; state Sen. Roger Roth, of Appleton; state Sen. Pat Testin, of Stevens Point; Lancaster Mayor David Varnam; Cindy Werner, who unsuccessfully sought the GOP nomination for the 4th CD in 2020; Jonathan Wichmann, a Franklin businessman; and Kyle Yudes, of Eau Claire.
