Madison turning shuttered absentee ballot drop boxes into art project

Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway today announced the city is turning its absentee ballot drop boxes into an art project displaying quotes from women's rights activist Sojourner Truth.

The city is working with New York-based artist Jenny Holzer on the project. The 14 drop boxes were shuttered since the state Supreme Court ruled earlier this year ballot drop boxes were illegal. Deputy Mayor Katie Crawley told WisPolitics.com the project will cost the city less than $7,000, which she said is comparable to the amount the city has spent on decorating some utility boxes.
