Former Vice President Mike Pence has endorsed Kleefisch, putting him at odds with former President Donald Trump.

Trump has endorsed Michels in the Aug. 9 primary race and will hold a rally for Michels in Waukesha on Aug. 5. A spokesman for the Kleefisch campaign declined to say if Pence would travel to Wisconsin to campaign for Kleefisch ahead of the primary.

Pence in a statement praised the former lieutenant governor under Republican Gov. Scott Walker as “the only candidate that will deliver a stronger and more prosperous Wisconsin.”

“Rebecca has a proven conservative track record and will draw on her experience to give parents more control of their children’s education, grow the economy and get Wisconsin back to work, fight for traditional conservative values, and make Wisconsin streets safer,” Pence said.

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, also has endorsed Kleefisch.
