State GOP sues Milwaukee officials over private GOTV effort records

The state GOP has sued Milwaukee officials for failing to turn over documents on a privately run GOTV effort that the party sought through an earlier open records request.

Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson infuriated Republicans earlier this month when he suggested the city was going to embrace a voter turnout effort dubbed Milwaukee Votes 2022 being put on by privately funded groups. After Johnson said the city’s website would promote the effort, the city later clarified that no public resources would go toward the effort.
