Dem state Rep. Katrina Shankland, of Stevens Point, has formally launched her bid for the 3rd CD, saying she has been effective in finding a middle ground with both parties to improve the lives of Wisconsinites.
She also called U.S. Rep. Derrick Van Orden, R-Prairie due Chien, an extremist who is too focused on “causing dysfunction.”
“I was raised by public school teachers who taught me from a young age — don’t complain unless you’re going to do something about it. That’s exactly what I have done my entire career, deliver results for Wisconsin,” Shankland said. “I am running for Congress to bring some common sense to our nation’s capital.”
She becomes the fourth Dem to formally announce plans to seek the party’s nomination to face Van Orden. The others are: Eau Claire nonprofit owner Rebecca Cooke, former La Crosse County Board Chair Tara Johnson and Aaron Nytes, a student at Harvard University who plans to move to La Crosse in May.
Shankland was first elected to the Assembly in 2012 and served as the assistant minority leader during the 2015 session.
