The state Elections Commission is pushing back on claims GOP Senate candidate Eric Hovde made about the Nov. 5 election.
The commission has maintained a page at its website to refute claims about Wisconsin elections. Yesterday, the agency added four more fact checks, including three directly responding to claims Hovde raised in a more than 4-minute video he posted on Tuesday as he considers a recount request.
The commission posting refutes: that there are 8 million registered voters on Wisconsin’s rolls; that more than 100% of registered voters in some Milwaukee wards turned out to vote; and that Milwaukee’s late-night reporting indicated fraud.
None of the new fact checks specifically mention Hovde, who is waiting for the final county canvass numbers to come in before deciding his next steps. He currently trails U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Madison, by more than 29,000 votes. Hovde could request a recount at that margin, though he would have to cover the cost.
Along with refuting the Hovde claims, the commission added a fourth fact check yesterday seeking to shoot down a rumor that satellite internet service provider Starlink was used to alter election results.
The agency simply wrote “Starlink could not possibly alter official or unofficial election results” and included a link to more information on how election results are transmitted.
