Trempealeau County Supv. Stacey Klein tells WisPolitics she’s dropping her bid for the GOP U.S. Senate nomination and taking her “campaign in a different direction” in light of the new legislative maps.

Klein declined to discuss specifics of her plan, saying she is targeting April 9 for a formal announcement.

Klein launched her bid for the U.S. Senate, but had struggled to raise money. She reported $21,588 in receipts through the end of 2023, and the state GOP earlier this year informed Senate candidates they must raise a minimum of $1 million by the end of March to be eligible for its endorsement at the state convention in May.

Klein’s decision leaves Madison businessman Eric Hovde and UW-Stevens Point student Rejani Raveendran as publicly announced candidates for the GOP nomination.
