U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-New York, told a Madison rally said she “does not consent” to the leadership of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and the U.S. Supreme Court.

“The women and people of this state do not consent to their leadership, nor the corrupt court that he has enabled because we are the front line of our democracy,” Ocasio-Cortez told a crowd of more than 500 at a downtown theater. “We will have our day. We will write this story and this chapter, and we will have the right to choose, not just with our bodies, but at the ballot box, too.”

Ocasio-Cortez spoke Friday about her “story of choice and of reproductive justice,” sharing her own experiences with sexual violence and a pregnancy scare after an assault. Ocasio-Cortez emphasized she was grateful to have had agency over her decisions from a young age — a right she said women lost when the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022.

Ocasio-Cortez added that Harris will work to restore reproductive freedom, describing Wisconsin as a “must-win state” with citizens on the “frontline” this election. She urged the crowd to return U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Madison, to the Senate, making clear her commitment to the Democratic Party’s “strength of an allyship.”

The rally was part of the Harris campaign’s “Fighting for Reproductive Freedom” bus tour — an effort to drive support for reproductive rights through at least 50 stops in key states.

Ocasio-Cortez’s stop came amid a flurry of presidential campaign visits to Wisconsin. Harris was in Madison a week earlier, while Minnesota first lady Gwen Walz and former U.S. Rep. Gabby Giffords, D-Arizona, both campaigned for the vice president. Meanwhile, Donald Trump’s campaign had a bus tour across Wisconsin ahead of the former president’s appearance in Prairie du Chien.

Democratic state leaders and reproductive healthcare advocates spoke before the New York representative, urging Wisconsinites to elect Harris.
