Vivek Ramaswamy promised supporters of Donald Trump that Republicans would usher in a host of election law changes if they have majorities in both houses of Congress and Trump wins the White House after this fall’s elections.
During a stop Wednesday in Waukesha as part of a Trump campaign bus tour, Ramaswamy and other surrogates for the former president heard multiple questions raising concerns about election integrity.
“If we get in there with majorities in the House and Senate, I’ll tell you what’s coming: single-day voting on Election Day, make it a national holiday, with paper ballots and government-issued ID to match the voter file, and I say put English as the only language,” said Ramaswamy, a former Trump primary challenger.
Ramaswamy later encouraged a voter to use early voting, saying that “you have to win to change the rules.”
Ramaswamy and other Trump surrogates wrapped up a three-day bus tour in Waukesha with a focus on immigration and encouraging supporters to turn out this fall.
Former Director of the Department of Homeland Security Chad Wolf attacked immigration policies of the Biden administration. He said under Trump’s administration, he saw the lowest number of illegal apprehensions “in his lifetime.” He then cited the roughly 12 million illegal encounters under the Biden-Harris administration.
U.S. Rep. Troy Nehls, R-Texas, also spoke on border issues, citing his experiences as a sheriff in Fort Bend County, Texas.
“We had people coming in from the southern border, and they were hurting and killing our residents,” Nehls said.
Kristi Johnston, a spokesperson for the Wisconsin Democratic Coordinated Campaign, responded by knocking Trump for his “extreme Project 2025 agenda,” which she said includes a nationwide abortion ban, restricting access to IVF and birth control, and raising costs on middle-class families by nearly $4,000 per year.
“Wisconsinites want leaders who will protect their freedoms, lower their costs, and put families first, and that’s why we need to come together to support Vice President Harris and Governor Walz and defeat Trump’s extreme Project 2025 agenda,” she said.
