A source close to Tony Evers tells WisPolitics the governor hasn’t yet made a final decision on seeking a third term, pushing back on reports that a retirement announcement is imminent.

The source refuted one report yesterday on WTMJ-AM that Evers advisers have begun calling potential Dem candidates to let them know he isn’t running.

The campaigns of several possible Dem gubernatorial candidates told WisPolitics they hadn’t been contacted by Evers advisers indicating that a decision had been made.

The Evers source also said no announcement from the guv is imminent.

Milwaukee radio talk show host Dan O’Donnell said on his WISN-AM show Wednesday that Dem and GOP operatives expect the guv to retire and that an announcement could come within 24 to 36 hours.

Speculation about Evers’ future has kicked into high gear since the guv reported $757,215 raised over the first six months of 2025, after he pulled in $5 million during the same period four years ago ahead of his reelection bid.

He also had $2.1 million in the bank at the end of June, compared to a warchest of $7.3 million at the same point four years ago.
