Fond du Lac County DA Eric Toney today announced he’s again running for attorney general.
Toney, 41, is seeking a rematch with Dem AG Josh Kaul. Three years ago, Kaul fended off Toney’s challenge by 35,000 votes, a difference of 1.3 percentage points.
“Two years ago, at 39, I underwent open-heart surgery because of a defective heart valve. By the grace of God—and years of running—my heart held on,” Toney said. “That clarity led me here: if I could still make a difference for Wisconsin, I would. After seven years of broken promises and political spin in the Attorney General’s office, it’s time for change.”
Toney, who was first elected Fond du Lac DA in 2013, topped former state Rep. Adam Jarchow, R-Balsam Lake, in the GOP primary for AG three years ago. Jarchow knocked Toney over charges he filed — and later dropped — against those who violated Gov. Tony Evers’ original stay-at-home order at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
