The Assembly Campaign and Elections Committee Thursday voted 5-2 along party lines today to back a voter ID amendment.
All five committee Republicans backed the amendment with Reps. Lee Snodgrass, D-Appleton and Clinton Anderson, D-Beloit, opposed.
There was no discussion of the motion today, after yesterday’s public hearing on the proposal. The Senate passed the amendment along party lines Wednesday, and it’s set to go to the Assembly on Tuesday.
The proposal, if approved Tuesday as expected, would add a question to the April ballot asking voters to enshrine the voter ID requirement in the state constitution, ensuring the current law could not be overturned.
