Post-primary spending in western Wisconsin’s 3rd CD has already topped $25 million, blowing past what candidates and groups put into ads over the same period two years ago, according to a check of AdImpact data.
Of the $25.2 million reserved between Aug. 11 and the November election, $13.1 million of it is going to support U.S. Rep. Derrick Van Orden, R-Prairie du Chien.
Two years ago, Dem Rebecca Cooke and those supporting her had the spending advantage with $12.9 million of the $21.9 million in reservations between the primary and general election.
In this year’s race between Van Orden and Cooke, the Prairie du Chien Republican is the top spender so far at $5.5 million in reservations, according to AdImpact.
On the Dem side, House Majority PAC is the biggest spender at nearly $5.2 million.
