Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez today said her gubernatorial campaign is moving forward after finding her former campaign manager had double-counted donations and failed to pay bills, calling it a “bump in the road.”

Rodriguez’s campaign last week announced plans for a $1 million media buy. Rodriguez told a news conference at her campaign headquarters that the former campaign manager, Kara Spencer, had led her to believe the campaign had the resources for the buy. Instead, she has about $200,000 in the bank.

Rodriguez said she still planned to go on the air next week but didn’t have details.

The primary is Aug. 11.

Campaigns typically use a compliance firm to help file reports and track their finances. Rodriguez said Spencer handled all of those responsibilities for her campaign because she has spent her career working on those issues.

“I am hurt, angry and deeply disappointed by someone I trusted to run my campaign,” Rodriguez said.
