Yee Leng Xiong won the Democratic primary for state treasurer, as the party looks to reclaim the only state constitutional office held by Republicans.

Xiong, a Marathon County supervisor bested Dylan Helmenstine, a Wisconsin Heights school board member from Black Earth. He had 58% of the vote, with 60% of the votes counted.

GOP incumbent John Leiber, ran unopposed in his party’s primary. Xiong, if elected in November, would be the first Hmong American elected to statewide office in the United States.
