Dem gubernatorial candidate Joel Brennan today vowed if elected he would activate the Wisconsin National Guard if necessary to protect election workers and polling places.
Brennan released a plan to protect state elections as President Donald Trump has ruminated about the federal government taking “take over the voting” in 15 states to “nationalize” the 2026 midterms.
Brennan’s plan includes allowing clerks to begin processing mail-in and absentee ballots before election day and utilizing state resources to protect election officials from threats, harassment and intimidation.
Brennan’s campaign noted the state has previously used the National Guard to help staff polling places during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We will not let Donald Trump undermine our right to free and fair elections,” said Brennan, who’s on leave from his post as president of the Greater Milwaukee Committee.
