The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association announced plans to host a debate in the governor’s race Oct. 9 — the day after WTMJ-TV plans to do one on the UW-Milwaukee campus.
It would be unusual to have debates on back-to-back nights. Multiple debates have also become rare in Wisconsin statewide elections.
Four years ago, Gov. Tony Evers and GOP challenger Tim Michels met once in a mid-October debate hosted by the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association. Likewise, U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Madison, and GOP challenger Eric Hovde met once in 2024 in a forum hosted by the WBA.
The WBA Foundation Board said today qualifying candidates would be invited to participate in the hourlong debate hosted by Milwaukee PBS with details on panelists and the format to be announced later.
