7th CD Republican candidate Michael Alfonso and Democrat candidate Fred Clark will face off in a televised debate Oct. 7.
The two are competing to succeed U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany, R-Minocqua, in the ruby-red Northwoods district.
The debate, hosted by ABC affiliate WDIO in Duluth, will be broadcast live from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. It will also be available on the television station’s website and app.
A statement from Alfonso said the 26-year-old former podcast producer is “looking forward to debating Fred Clark and exposing his radical record of pushing for tax hikes and catering to the woke mob instead of hardworking Wisconsin families.”

Clark, a 67-year-old former state lawmaker, challenged Alfonso shortly after August’s primary to seven debates ahead of the Nov. 3 primary.
Clark wrote in a text message that he was “glad to see Michael has finally accepted at least one single debate invite. But that’s not enough and voters all deserve more than that.”
He said his campaign has already agreed to two other debates hosted by local television affiliates and was waiting for the Alfonso campaign’s response. An Alfonso spokesperson did not address whether Alfonso would participate in the other proposed debates.
