Contact: Senator Fred Risser 608-266-1627 Largest state taxpayer giveaway to a foreign corporation in U.S. history State Senator Fred Risser (D-Madison) said that today’s passage by the Senate of the Foxconn legislation is a breathtaking sweetheart deal that sells out state environmental laws, give Foxconn special treatment in our courts, and puts state taxpayers on the hook for $3 billion over decades while our schools, our roads and other vital needs of our citizens continue to go unmet. “The idea of guaranteeing cash payments of hundreds of millions of dollars each year of public funds to a foreign corporation at

Senate approves Foxconn bill 20-13, with Cowles voting against it

The state Senate Tuesday approved 20-13 an amended $3 billion incentive package for the Taiwanese tech company Foxconn, with GOP Sen. Robert Cowles opposing it and Dem Bob Wirch voting for the proposal. Democrats called it a corporate giveaway to a foreign company, slamming projections that the state wouldn’t break even until fiscal year 2042-43 if Foxconn meets its promise to create 13,000 jobs, the vast majority filled by Wisconsin residents, and build its pledged $10 billion facility in southeastern Wisconsin. But Republicans hailed it as a “transformational” deal that would make Wisconsin a leader in high-tech manufacturing — with

Cowles joins Dems in voting against GOP amendment to Foxconn bill

The Senate is now debating the overall Foxconn incentive package after rejecting a series of Dem amendments and approving two authored by Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, R-Juneau. One, which passed earlier today, would state WEDC “shall establish job creation thresholds” while tying capital expenditure tax benefits to those benchmarks. The second passed 19-14, with Sen. Robert Cowles, R-Green Bay, joining Democrats in voting against it. The amendment would maintain the appeals court’s role in any lawsuits filed over decisions related to the economic development zone where the project is located. But the amendment would still speed up the process compared

WisGOP: Sen. Baldwin embraces radical $32 trillion health care takeover

Contact: Alec Zimmerman (608) 257-4765 Supports Sen. Sanders’ Extreme Plan [Madison, WI]— Senator Tammy Baldwin announced her support for Senator Sanders single-payer health care plan and even committed to being a co-sponsor. Baldwin endorsed the plan, with a $32 trillion price tag, more than 24 hours before its release. Instead of fighting for hard-working Wisconsinites, Senator Baldwin is embracing a radical left-wing idea that would lead to more out-of-control government spending. “This is classic Senator Baldwin, pushing an extreme agenda and siding with Washington over Wisconsin,” said Alec Zimmerman, spokesman for the Republican Party of Wisconsin. “By embracing this radical plan and

Sen. Miller: Issues statement on the “Foxconn con”

Contact: Sen. Miller 608-266-9170 Madison, Wisconsin – “This legislation raises more questions than it answers about the deal Governor Walker struck with Foxconn. And nowhere is this more apparent than the provisions that deal with our environment. We can’t know the full impact on the environment or local communities when we don’t know where the project is located. And that makes it pretty difficult to grant blanket exemptions from laws for air, water and land to be identified in the future. “I shouldn’t be surprised – this is the Governor’s MO. A company wants to do business in Wisconsin, but
