Bill to let Tesla sell electric cars to consumers touted by GOP leggies

GOP lawmakers today pushed legislation that would allow electric car manufacturer Tesla to sell directly to consumers in Wisconsin rather than through contract dealers.
Rep. Rob Brooks, R-Saukville, said it would help open the Wisconsin market to the luxury vehicles.
“We need to look at the way we do business and reform the way we do business,” said Brooks, who was joined by co-author Sen. Chris Kapenga, R-Delafield.
The proposed bill would allow manufacturers of electric-powered cars to sell directly to consumers, but continue restrictions that other car companies go through dealers.
