Dems slam bills boosting penalties for juvenile offenders

Dems today slammed two bills that would add tougher penalties for some state juvenile offenders, saying those individuals need more treatment instead of being incarcerated for longer periods of time.
But Rep. Joe Sanfelippo, R-New Berlin, said Dems are neglecting to think of crime victims who “feel like they’re prisoners in their own home” because they’re afraid to go outside.
The two bills are part of a broader “Victim Prevention Package” authored by Sanfelippo and Sen. Leah Vukmir, R-Brookfield, who said the state isn’t doing enough to keep violent offenders off the streets.
