Kaukauna, WI: Workers, farmers, environmentalists, and other allies will be gathering at the Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 400 Hall (2700 Northridge in Kaukauna) on Tues. Sept. 19th starting at 7:00 pm to discuss the negative impacts of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and what solutions need to be on the table before any meaningful renegotiation can occur.

President Trump ordered the re-negotiation of NAFTA, and despite little media attention, two rounds of negotiations have already been held. Similar town hall meetings are now happening across the country as more and more people are demanding fair trade – not free trade – from their elected officials.

“The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has been an economic disaster and if it is to be replaced we must insist upon a transparent fair trade agreement that is democratically accountable to the people not just corporate interests,” noted John E. Peck, executive director of Family Farm Defenders, “Such a fair trade deal would guarantee collective bargaining and living wages for workers, parity prices and land access for farmers, consumer right to know, tough public health and food safety standards, as well as environmental protections to safeguard our air, water, and wildlife.”
The Kaukauna Town Hall Meeting will feature short presentations on current negotiations with Canada and Mexico from representatives of manufacturing, environmental organizations, and family farmers. There will also be ample time for discussion and questions from the audience and the media.
