Former U.S. Rep. Jerry Kleczka, who represented Milwaukee in Congress for two decades, passed away over the weekend, according to the state Dem party. He was 73.
Kleczka represented the 4th Congressional District from 1984 to 2005 and was succeeded in Congress by U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore following his retirement.
Kleczka also served in the state Assembly from 1969 to 1975, then held a state Senate seat from 1975 to 1984, when he won a special election for the House seat. During his tenure in the state Legislature, he was assistant minority leader and Joint Finance Committee co-chair.
