New state groundwater report classifies ‘effects of extreme weather’ as an emerging challenge

The “effects of extreme weather” are among the emerging challenges highlighted in a recent report on the state’s groundwater that was submitted to the Legislature last month.
The annual report, from the Department of Natural Resources’ Groundwater Coordinating Council, also highlighted a number of other areas to keep an eye on, including the expansion of concentrated animal feeding operations and the “unprecedented growth” of frac sand mining in the west-central part of the state since 2010.
