Schimel files appeal to Supreme Court in redistricting case

The state Department of Justice today filed a long-anticipated appeal with the U.S. Supreme Court on a ruling that struck down the state's 2011 redistricting maps.
A federal panel last year ruled the Assembly maps were an unconstitutional partisan gerrymander. And at the end of January, lawmakers and Gov. Scott Walker were ordered to draw up and approve new maps by Nov. 1, in order for the maps to be in place for the November 2018 elections.
