On tariffs, Republicans like Ryan and others apparently know better than to aggressively criticize Trump so as not to offend his base within the GOP that seems perpetually angry.
At first blush, the president’s proposal may sound enticing and even patriotic — an “America First” policy designed to punish foreign exporters and benefit U.S. industries. But in fact, the opposite is true. Tariffs aren’t really taxes on imports — they are taxes on American families and American businesses.
Several union leaders I spoke with worry these are tariffs from a “president who wants to protect the industry, not the worker.”
The Wisconsin Freedom of Information Council could not have picked a worse recipient for its political openness award than Scott Walker.
