Senate, Assembly drop plans to come in on special elections bill

The state Senate is dropping plans to come in next week to vote on a bill that would undercut a judge’s order to hold special elections in the vacant first SD and 42nd AD, the office of Scott Fitzgerald said. Walker orders special elections in 1st SD, 42nd AD

Gov. Scott Walker this morning ordered special elections June 12 to fill vacancies in the 1st SD and 42nd AD. If necessary, the primary would be May 15. Nomination papers can begin circulating today with an April 17 deadline to turn them in. Walker’s order comes after several legal attempts to put off calling the special elections fell short. A Dane County judge last week set a deadline of today for Walker to issue the order. Walker: Calls Special Election for Senate District 1 and Assembly District 42   MADISON–Governor Scott Walker today issued Executive Order #280 calling for a special election for 1st Senate District and 42nd Assembly District. Governor Walker ordered the special election to be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2018. If a primary is necessary, it will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018. Circulation of nomination papers for candidates may begin today, March 29, 2018. Nomination papers must be filed no later than 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2018.
