MILWAUKEE, WI – On March 24th, 2018, students are organizing a local March For Our Lives event in Milwaukee, Wisconsin [ www.marchforourlives.com ]. Thousands have registered for this event.
“We are deeply inspired by the incredible students in Parkland, Florida. Our goal is to bring awareness to the lack of legislation regarding gun control and to ensure the safety of all our fellow students and faculty. We demand action from both major political parties, our Congress, Speaker Paul Ryan, Governor Scott Walker, and the President. We are all citizens, and soon we are all voters. Other students in Wisconsin will also be planning actions on March 24th in Appleton, La Crosse, Green Bay, and Madison.
Students from across our County decided that, for the Milwaukee march, we’ll be starting at the County Courthouse at 10am and marching to City Hall. The wonderful owners of Bounce Milwaukee opened up their space for us to use for an informational meeting this Wednesday (tomorrow), February 28th, from 5pm to 7pm. We’ll be going over details about the march, answering questions, and distributing posters and stickers for people to give out. Additionally, many high schools in our area will be having walkouts on March 14th at 10am in solidarity with the #ENOUGH – Women’s March.
Our government needs to act now. We will no longer tolerate “thoughts and prayers” – our country’s legislation has to change in order to ensure the safety of our students and faculty. Politicians of all parties – even after 17 teachers and children were killed at Stoneman Douglas on February 14th, you have shown us that you value your guns and your NRA money more than you value our lives. Students can not be expected to learn in an environment where they don’t know if they’re safe. We need students, teachers, politicians, moms, dads, everyone to stand up. Join us. Help us win this fight that is long overdue.”
