WASHINGTON, DC – Furthering the agenda to help America’s farmers, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration (ETA) and Wage and Hour Division (WHD) today is posting online a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) to solicit public comment on proposed changes to improve the H-2A temporary agricultural labor certification program. These proposed changes would modernize the Department’s H-2A regulations in a way that is responsive to stakeholder concerns and enhances employer access to a legal source of agricultural labor, while maintaining the program’s protections for the U.S. workforce and enhancing enforcement against fraud and abuse. The NPRM includes

WisDems: Scott Walker promises not to run for higher office, again

Contact: Courtney Beyer, courtneyb@wisdems.org MADISON — Former Wisconsin governor Scott Walker announced today that he wouldn’t run for higher office in 2022 despite many prior public statements he has made to the contrary. Walker announced that he has accepted a full-time position at Young America’s Foundation beginning in 2021, claiming this would “preclude” him from running for governor or U.S. Senate in 2022. But this isn’t the first time Walker has made promises not to pursue higher political ambitions; in October 2014, just weeks before Wisconsinites re-elected Walker to a second-term, Walker promised Wisconsinites he wouldn’t run for president in

MADISON—On Tue, July 16, at 10:30 a.m., in the Assembly Parlor in the State Capitol, Sen. Dave Hansen (D-Green Bay) and Rep. Robyn Vining (D-Wauwatosa) will be introducing their bills to ban gerrymandering in Wisconsin. The companion bills call on Wisconsin to adopt an independent, nonpartisan redistricting process. Their bills, SB288 and AB303, have the support of Rep. Todd Novak (R-Dodgeville) Rep. Travis Tranel (R-Cuba City) and Rep. Joel Kitchens (R-Sturgeon Bay). This bipartisan support is reflected in the Marquette Law School poll earlier this year that showed that 72 percent of Wisconsinites wanted to ban gerrymandering, including 63 of Republicans and

WisOpinion Poll: Should the state constitution be amended to prevent governors from increasing spending with budget vetoes?

Two GOP lawmakers are circulating a proposed constitutional amendment that would further reign in the guv’s line-item veto authority after Gov. Tony Evers used that power to boost per-pupil state aid by $87 million in the budget. Guvs typically can’t increase spending with their partial veto authority. But Evers used the line-item veto to increase the per-pupil aid, which Republicans had set at $679 in fiscal year 2019-20 and $704 the following year. The veto pushed the per-student payment to $742 in each year. Because per-pupil aid is a sum sufficient appropriation, the Department of Public Instruction is authorized to

For more information, please contact: Nick Novak, 608.258.3400 MADISON – President Donald Trump’s tariffs are biting Wisconsin companies, but a majority of business leaders support them anyway, according to a semi-annual economic survey conducted by Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC) – the State Chamber of Commerce.
