Assembly Republicans pass rule changes despite Dem objections

Rep. Jimmy Anderson joined his fellow Assembly Dems in voting against accommodations allowing him to call into committee meetings even after GOP leaders pulled from the package a contentious measure allowing unlimited veto override attempts. Before the proposals were split into two packages, Dems denounced them as a power grab and Anderson, D-Fitchburg, chided his GOP colleagues for tying the accommodations he’s sought all year to changes that he said were designed to undercut the minority. Republicans then broke up the package. But the provisions to provide accommodations for Anderson were still paired with changes such as giving the majority

MADISON – Today, Republicans continued their long-standing pattern of self-serving power grabs which undermine our democracy and democratic institutions. Representative Anderson has privately asked for reasonable accommodations related to his disability since February. Since then, Representative Robin Vos has repeatedly denied these requests which would allow Rep. Anderson to continue serving his constituents. This week, Republicans offered some accommodations for Rep. Anderson, but paired them with significant, unrelated items that tilted power toward the majority Republicans. Assembly Democratic Leader Gordon Hintz (D-Oshkosh) released the following statement on Vos’ latest power grab: “The decision to not allow these basic accommodations without

Rep. Allen: Legislation easing transferring college, tech school credits passes Assembly

Beginning the fall legislative session, the Wisconsin State Assembly on Thursday passed 2019 AB 189/SB 165, dealing with higher education credit transfers.  The bill streamlines the credit transfer methodology between the University of Wisconsin System, Wisconsin Technical Colleges, private colleges and universities, and tribal schools.   There are two different credit transfer models used in Wisconsin, which has led to significant confusion.   The course-to-course model let students transfer up to 30 credit hours, depending on course guidelines.  The program-to-program model allowed for transferring the entirety of learning outcomes.  Unfortunately, the bifurcated model has led to over 600 separate articulation agreements between

Rep. Neubauer: Yet another power brab by Assembly Republicans
