Five governors and a host of VIPs toasted former Dem Gov. Tony Earl on Nov. 7 for his 50 years of public service before hundreds of family, friends and associates at Madison’s Monona Terrace.
The bipartisan audience reminisced about Earl’s years in the state Assembly, at DNR and as governor from 1983 to 1987.
Former Assembly Speaker Tom Loftus emceed the event, attended by Gov. Tony Evers, who presented Earl a marker for the Governor Earl Peshtigo State Forest.
Other attendees: former Govs. Schreiber, Thompson, McCallum and Doyle along with U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin and U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan, whose political roots go back to Earl, as well as prominent Republicans like David Prosser and Mike Huebsch and former Dem legislative leaders Walter Kunicki, Dave Helbach, Bob Jauch, Joe Strohl, Tim Cullen and Chuck Chvala.
Earl, 83, is a retired partner at Quarles & Brady.
