Clearly there is a lack of trust and respect that plagued this entire election process. It may have been on a limited basis, it may have been more pervasive. But there is no way anyone could have listened to the testimony from today’s hearing and not have heard examples of personal failings from the people we entrust with our sacred duties of election administration. As legislators, we need to commit ourselves to rising above this. To be sure, policy changes may be required. However our first step, we legislators and all citizens of Wisconsin, must be self-examination: “Have I treated my duties, the electoral process, and my fellow person, with respect?”
