U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson told GOP activists in a video message the country faces a choice this fall: growing lawlessness and an effort to erase the country’s history or an acknowledgment of the nation’s shortcomings and a dedication to helping people achieve the American dream.

The Oshkosh Republican, who is missing the rescheduled convention due to a planned vacation to celebrate his 65th birthday, told the convention to look at Seattle as an example of what “radical anarchists have in mind” for the country.

He said CHOP — the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone established by protesters — was described by the mayor as a “summer of love” event. Instead, it was marked by armed guards and chaos.

“That is not a vision of liberty and self-government,” Johnson said. “It’s a prescription for anarchy and chaos.”
