-- Officials in Outagamie and Calumet counties are set to duplicate thousands of misprinted ballots on Election Day, the state's top election official said today.
That's the process laid out in state law, but it's one local officials had hoped to avoid after they uncovered the issue with the timing marks on some 13,500 ballots last month. The rectangular symbols that form a ring around a ballot direct how counting machines allocate votes, but the defect prevents the ballots from being read by vote tabulators.
