Madison, WI – Republicans in both the Senate and Assembly are putting forward measures to help make Wisconsin communities safer, and Rep. Cindi Duchow (R-Delafield) joins her legislative Republican colleagues in supporting the Tougher on Crime package.

Wisconsin has a growing violent crime problem as FBI data show violent crime rates from 2008 to 2017 increased in all but two Wisconsin cities. This package of bills was developed with input of law enforcement and criminal justice experts to identify and target the root causes of this problem in Wisconsin.

“It’s time to get tough on crime, and stop letting violent criminals and reoffenders spread fear in our communities,” said Rep. Duchow. “This package of bills reflects our commitment to ensuring that Wisconsin families feel safe in their homes and their neighborhoods.”

In addition to providing real consequences for violent or repeat criminals, this package of bills provides more transparency in the criminal justice system, signature bail reform, oversight of the correctional system, and protections for crime victims. The first of several bills from this effort will be circulated for co-sponsors this week.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues on making our communities better places to live and raise a family,” said Rep. Duchow. “While the governor is focused on letting people out of prison, we will be working on making Wisconsin safer.”
