Vos threatens suit if Evers vetoes bill to give lawmakers oversight of coming federal COVID funds

Assembly Speaker Robin Vos today threatened the GOP-controlled Legislature will have “no choice but to go to court” if Gov. Tony Evers vetoes legislation that would give lawmakers oversight of how federal money is spent under a $1.9 trillion COVID-19 bill. Vos called it unconstitutional for the guv to spend dollars without legislative oversight, as the Wisconsin Constitution dictates no dollars may be spent without an appropriation. “If you vote no, you’re basically saying ‘what’s the point of having a Legislature?’” he said. “We have a chance to fix it now. If for some reason the governor vetoes this bill,

Dept. of Military Affairs: Now a general, former 115th Fighter Wing commander Erik Peterson reflects on a career that’s come full circle

MADISON, Wis. — About 20 years ago, now Brig. Gen. Erik Peterson transferred from active duty F-16 pilot to commercial airline pilot with American Airlines. His first flight from Miami to Houston was also his last until late this year. The recently promoted Peterson described this first flight as an airline pilot, which took place on September 11, 2001, as surreal. “To be on your first flight on a brand new airline and have the captain say grab the crash ax, don’t let anybody in the cockpit – it’s a little bit different,” said Peterson. “We did not realize the

At the same time, the nonpartisan office said, a tax created by Republicans to target that money stowed in low-tax jurisdictions, known as “GILTI,” is succeeding at dunning at least some
