Madison, Wis. — Today, Governor Tony Evers signed Act 73 into law creating new cybersecurity requirements for protecting data collected by the insurance industry. “From ransomware to data breaches, insurers and consumers are at an increasing risk of experiencing a serious cybersecurity incident,” said Insurance Commissioner Mark Afable. “The new consumer protections in this Act will help protect personal data and keep Wisconsin insurance companies secure.” Act 73 was derived from model legislation developed by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) incorporating input from all participating state insurance commissioners, industry stakeholders, and consumer representatives. Gov. Evers: Signs “Ethan’s Law”

MADISON — Gov. Evers today signed Senate Bill 24, now 2021 Wisconsin Act 72, also known as “Ethan’s Law.” This bill makes several changes to expand the circumstances that generally prohibit a court from placing a child in an out-of-home placement with a person who has previously been convicted of, has pleaded no contest to, or has had a charge dismissed or amended as a result of a plea agreement for certain crimes against a child, as well as to prohibit licensed entities from employing, contracting with, or housing any person or employee that has been charged with certain crimes against a child. “Ethan’s Law” is named in memory of 7-year-old Ethan Hauschultz.

Dept. of Transportation: Overnight closures of westbound US 12/18 (Beltline) and I-39/90 ramps to, from westbound Beltline in Madison

Next week, westbound US 12/18 (Beltline) will be closed and detoured nightly from the I-39/90 interchange to US 51/Stoughton Road in Madison. The I-39/90 northbound ramp to westbound US 12/18 (Beltline) and westbound Beltline ramp to I-39/90 southbound will also be closed during the overnight hours.
