Republican Owens drops out of AG race

Republican Ryan Owens, who has faced criticism in recent weeks over his past comments, dropped out of the race for attorney general today, saying the attacks have taken a toll on his family. Today’s decision comes on the heels of UW-Madison reposting three of the four podcasts Owens taped while director of the university’s Tommy G. Thompson Center. That includes one in which he suggested that releasing the readout of former President Trump’s conversation with the Ukraine president could be “political suicide.” He’s also faced criticism from some conservatives for positive comments he made about Gov. Owens campaign: Statement

Throughout this campaign I have worked to present an optimistic message for how we can improve our freedom and safety. I’ve talked about how we need to rise above politics as usual, protect the constitution and the rule of law, and help people retain greater power over their daily lives. So many people appreciated that message, and I truly appreciate their support. The last few weeks have shown me that politics is even more disgusting than I expected. Having never run for political office before, I did not fully anticipate how disgusting it would get so quickly. You can be

WisDems: ICYMI: Radical Rebecca Kleefisch fails to produce plan for COVID-19

MADISON, Wis. — Rebecca Kleefisch’s rocky campaign for governor hit another bump today as the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel exposed her failure to come up with a plan to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Rather than encourage folks to get vaccinated or wear a mask, Kleefisch offered up a garbled laundry list of things she wouldn’t do. Kleefisch even accused Gov. Tony Evers of not following the state’s emergency response plan, but state officials debunked that lie and confirmed that Gov. Evers has used the plan as a guide. Kleefisch has been reckless with the pandemic since last year — she’s supported bogus

Democratic Governors Association: Prominent Republican donors endorse Kevin Nicholson for Governor, setting stage for messy WI GOP primary

The Wisconsin GOP gubernatorial primary is shaping up to be an expensive and divisive race after well-known Republican donors Liz and Richard Uihlein recently threw their support behind likely Republican candidate Kevin Nicholson. The Racine Journal-Times warns that Nicholson has been increasing his name recognition for over a year ahead of the election, and the Uihleins’ multibillionaire influence “can’t be understated.” The New York Times dubbed the Uihleins as “The Most Powerful Conservative Couple You’ve Never Heard Of” and said the couple is set on pushing the GOP “further to the right” with the candidates they support. In 2018, the couple backed Nicholson

Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee: Insurrectionist, self-professed sexual harasser, bully, and failed candidate Derrick Van Orden gets challenger in WI-03

Derrick Van Orden better hope that he didn’t blow his entire campaign budget on the January 6th insurrection. As a new Democratic challenger enters the WI-03 field, Big Liar and even bigger loser Van Orden is going to need every penny. Then again, it won’t matter: even all the money in the world could not change the fact that Derrick Van Orden is completely out of touch with the voters of Wisconsin’s 3rd District. Since being rejected at the ballot box in 2020, Van Orden has only continued to debase himself by making all the wrong kinds of headlines. The

Protect Our Care: New fact-sheet: closing the Medicaid coverage gap could help 176,000 uninsured Wisconsinites gain coverage

WISCONSIN — As Democrats in Congress build a budget agreement that includes historic provisions to improve access to health care — including closing the Medicaid coverage gap — new fact-sheets from Planned Parenthood Federation of America are highlighting how these efforts would lower costs and expand access to health care in Wisconsin. Closing the coverage gap is the single most important thing Congress can do to address the inequities laid bare by the pandemic.
