State GOP congressional delegation appeals state justice’s redistricting decision to U.S. Supreme Court

The GOP members of the state’s congressional delegation asked the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn new maps OK’d by Wisconsin justices, arguing they are unconstitutional. The filing — coming two days after Republican state lawmakers also went to the U.S. justices seeking to overturn the new maps — accuses the state Supreme Court of violating the Due Process Clause by baiting and switching the parties on what standard it would use to adopt a map. The GOP members of Congress asked the court to direct Wisconsin’s justices to scrap their decision and allow the parties to submit new maps for

Milwaukee Election Commission head challenges Gableman claim some nursing homes had 100% turnout

Milwaukee Election Commission Executive Director Claire Woodall-Vogg is questioning Gableman’s claim of 100 percent turnout at some nursing homes in Milwaukee County. She looked at all nursing homes in the city, finding turnout collectively was 79 percent. Of the 32 she reviewed, four had a turnout of more than 90 percent. The highest was 97 percent. Gableman’s report says his office “vetted” 30 nursing homes in Milwaukee County as part of its review of the 2020 election. It doesn’t detail which ones were reviewed, and the report notes as more facilities were studied, the percentage may change. It looked at

America First Policy Institute: Statement on congressional omnibus proposal

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, America First Policy Institute (AFPI)’s President and CEO, Brooke Rollins, released the following statement regarding the reckless $1.5 trillion, 2,700-page spending package making its way through Congress. “Only in Washington, D.C. do people believe greater domestic government spending is needed at a time when inflation is running at a 40-year high, and the federal debt surpasses $30 trillion. The proposed 6.7% non-defense spending increase devotes resources the federal government doesn’t have to fund programs that are more political than necessary. During a time of record-high gasoline prices, sky-high grocery prices, and people’s paychecks holding less buying power,

State needs ‘to do more’ for female entrepreneurs and women-owned startups, WEDC head says

WEDC Secretary and CEO Missy Hughes says the state should do more to elevate female entrepreneurs and women-owned startups.  Speaking yesterday during a webinar for International Women’s Day, Hughes said Wisconsin is “keeping pace” with national trends for investment in women-owned businesses, but “we need to do more.”  She said women-founded companies in the state’s Qualified New Business Venture program — which provides tax benefits to investors in Wisconsin startups — received just about 5.5 percent of all the money invested in QNBV companies between 2017 and 2020.  “That’s about half the national figure for comparable investments that go to

This afternoon, Evers fired off a letter to the nation’s congressional leaders calling it “unacceptable” that the state could lose the money. The original bill included about… Please log in to access subscriber content.
