Wisconsin Catholic Conference: Statement of the Wisconsin Catholic Bishops on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization

Today the U.S. Supreme Court issued its opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, overturning Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey. This decision corrects a tragic wrong in our federal jurisprudence that has permitted the killing of millions of innocent human beings. In Wisconsin alone, approximately 600,000 unique lives were taken, each created in God’s image and loved for all eternity. While relieved that an inhumane and unjust right to abortion has been struck down, we know well that many of Wisconsin’s pregnant and parenting women face grave challenges. It is for this reason that our prayers

Dem state convention resolutions call for limits on election investigations, adopting unicameral Legislature

Dem convention delegates this weekend in La Crosse will take up resolutions that call for limiting voting investigations to bipartisan legislative committees and adopting a unicameral Legislature. Northeast Wisconsin Democrats issued the following joint statement: “Wisconsin’s abortion ban from 1849 criminalizes abortion, and turns doctors who help women into felons. This law is unacceptable. We must stand together

U.S. Rep Moore: Votes to pass bipartisan, bicameral Safer Communities Act

“The scourge of gun violence has made Americans going to the grocery store, movie theater, school, or their place of worship, worry whether their next outing will become the next site of a tragedy. This isn’t real freedom. America’s nearly unrestricted access to weapons, including assault rifles, has infringed on every Americans’ ability to live without fear of gun violence in their daily lives. And the gun violence epidemic has sadly, touched every community in some way. In Milwaukee, we too often see gun violence taking precious members of our community. This is why for years, I have championed gun

Wikler: Dems to offer sharp contrast to GOP at state convention

State Dem Chair Ben Wikler cites a noticeable difference at his party’s convention this weekend compared to Republicans’ May event. Dems aren’t trying to eat their own. With no endorsement process, little drama is expected when Dems gather in La Crosse Saturday and Sunday ahead of the midterm elections. They also don’t have nearly as many incumbents facing primary challenges — 13 Republicans to just one Dem — and there aren’t debates over whether to decertify the 2020 election results or admonish a party leader. Instead, Wikler says the public will see a party that’s fired up and unified. “It
