TheCoalition for More Responsible Transportation (CMRT) strongly opposes this selection, which willperpetuate the negative impacts of highway expansions on Communities of Color, will make it evenharder to reach our climate change goals, and will not reverse decades of disinvestment in publictransportation, walking and biking infrastructure in Milwaukee. Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors: Supervisor burgelis decries DOT preferred alternative for I-94 East-West project

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration today announced a preferred alternative for reconstruction of the I-94 East-West corridor between 70th Street and 16th Street in Milwaukee County.  “While a safer and smarter redesign of the I-94 corridor in District 15 is overdue, unfortunately, the Wisconsin Department of Concrete released a preferred eight lane option for this project,” said Supervisor Burgelis. “Building oversized freeways without considerations for multimodal transportation or permanent transit infrastructure is narrow-minded and shortsighted, and ignores concerns voiced by residents throughout this years-long design process. The eight-lane design does not serve the people of District 15,

African American Roundtable: Releases statement on Milwaukee’s ‘Status Quo’ 2023 proposed budget

While the Milwaukee Common Council decided against cuts to libraries and the fire department, which the mayor can still veto until November 15, this budget still fails to meet the needs of the city’s residents. Instead, it increases the Milwaukee Police Department’s budget by $20 million. This status quo budget continues the trend of funding police at the expense of every other city department and will lead Milwaukee to bankruptcy.  As 2023 approaches we will continue our fight for a budget that adequately funds libraries, neighborhoods, housing, mental health services and supports participatory budgeting. Milwaukee deserves a participatory budgeting process
