Hi, this is Rep. Dianne Hesselbein with this week’s Democratic Radio Address.

Like many of you, I look forward this Veterans Day to honoring and celebrating those who have served our nation. Wisconsin is proud of our military veterans, service members, families–their commitment and sacrifice–and across the state we will honor them in many ways. No matter where you live in Wisconsin, there will be remembrances and celebration. From the Milwaukee Parade, with its hundreds of participants and thousands of spectators, to the Spooner Area Honor Guard’s annual visit to a local nursing home, we will recognize our deserving veterans.

The theme for Veterans Day 2022 is “honor.”  Veterans are rightfully proud to have honorably defended our Nation—and we are proud to honor them!  We honor them for protecting our way of life, the Constitution of the United States of America, and indeed, democracy itself.

It is right we honor veterans on November 11th, but we must support our veterans every day. One way to honor veterans is to be sure they receive the benefits they earned.  Did you know that every single Wisconsin county has a County Veteran Service Officer that helps Veterans? If you are a veteran, or know a veteran please contact your local County Veteran Service Officer.  They help veterans receive all the benefits they have earned.

My Democratic colleagues and I believe we can—and should–do more for those who did so much for our nation..

Governor Tony Evers wants to do more, as well. He has invested 10 million dollars to support employment, housing assistance and mental health services for our veterans, and wants to do more with the 5 billion dollar budget surplus the Republicans are unwilling to spend. We Democrats in the legislature are ready to stand with the governor to invest in our veterans—our heroes—to truly honor their service.
